The challenge

On a production platform in the North Sea, an aging hydraulic and gas-injection system needed to be replaced. The operator set strict requirements: working pressures up to 690 bar, an aggressive environment with high chloride loads from sea spray, full NACE MR0175 compliance, and absolutely leak-free connections. The existing compression fittings had developed stress-corrosion cracking after a few years in service, and the associated valves could no longer reliably shut off during the rapid pressure fluctuations typical of the injection cycle.

The solution

Ingenieursburo Gommer re-specified the complete instrumentation package using components selected specifically for these conditions:

• Hoke needle and bleed valves in Super Duplex 2507 for the instrument tap-offs;
• Gyrolok twin-ferrule tube fittings, also in Super Duplex 2507, for every tube-to-tube and tube-to-NPT connection;‍
• CPV high-pressure ball valves in Inconel 625 as the main shut-off in the gas-injection line;
• HIP high-pressure adapters and check valves on the test connections, rated up to 1,034 bar.

Gommer also provided on-site technical support during initial installation and trained the maintenance crew in correct ferrule make-up procedures.

The result

Since the upgrade, zero leaks have been reported on the installed connections. The combination of Super Duplex and Inconel materials has extended the inspection interval from twelve to forty-eight months, delivering substantial savings in both maintenance cost and platform shutdown time.
